Opening up Streatham Hill Theatre to the public again would be truly exciting. What could be a finer community asset than this building?’

Award winning journalist and broadcaster Samira Ahmed is a proud South Londoner with strong connections to Streatham and an Ambassador for the Theatres Trust. She presents Radio 4’s flagship arts programme Front Row, Newswatch on BBC1 and the Intelligence Squared podcast How I Found My Voice. She won the British Broadcasting Press Guild Audio Presenter of the Year award for 2020. Her documentaries explore the intersection of culture, science, politics and social change. Samira’s acclaimed BBC4 series Art of Persia was the first major documentary series to be filmed in Iran for 40 years. She is an honorary fellow of St Edmund Hall, Oxford, on the advisory board of the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford and a trustee of the charities Action for Stammering Children, the Centre for Women’s Justice and UK Feminista. Samira won the Stonewall Broadcast of the Year award while a presenter at Channel 4 News. She has been a BBC News Correspondent, a reporter on Newsnight, a news anchor for World Service TV and Deutsche Welle TV in Berlin and covered the OJ Simpson case while the BBC’s LA Correspondent.
