I am thrilled to support this project to breathe new life into Streatham’s Sleeping Beauty, which will also revitalise the arts and culture in Streatham.’

Streatham resident Renato Balsadonna, was born in Venice, and worked as a répétiteur in Italy before becoming Assistant Chorus Master in Basle. He was appointed Chorus Director at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels in 1997 under Antonio Pappano and later joined Pappano with The Royal Opera House, where he was their celebrated Chorus Director from 2004 – 2016.

Renato is a symphonic and opera conductor who has successfully collaborated with numerous opera houses and orchestras, including Frankfurt Opera, BBC Concert Orchestra, Mariinsky Theatre in St.Petersburg, Teatro La Fenice, Teatro Regio Turin, Cincinnati Opera, Michigan Opera, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Opera North, London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has participated in recordings for EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, Warner Classics, Opera Rara and Chandos.

He has been knighted OMRI by the Italian Republic President in 2015.

He is married to the opera singer Rosalind Waters.
