Actor, journalist and campaigner

Born and brought up in Streatham and represented Streatham Hill on Lambeth Council for 12 years, being first elected in 2002.

Read French and Russian at Cambridge. Taught in France and then became a journalist on local and national newspapers (including Times and Financial Times) and news agencies (Reuters and Agence France Presse).

Trained as an actor at the Central School of Speech and Drama and has worked on stage (rep, fringe and national tours) and TV, including Play for Today and other BBC dramas.

Is currently representative for the Open Spaces Society covering Lambeth and Wandsworth.

Set up Streatham Blues, holding its first event online during the Streatham Festival.

As a councillor sat on Lambeth planning committee and had special responsibilities in housing and culture.

Has been involved in numerous local campaigns. As a councillor ensured that the Megabowl/Caesars redevelopment included an arts and performance space and campaigned successfully to improve the facilities offered.

First experienced live theatre at Streatham Hill, seeing West Side Story and Ross by Terence Rattigan.
