Streatham Hill Theatre campaign “call to arms” ahead of May 22 planning deadline
Press release issued today: Campaigners aiming to bring one of London’s biggest theatres back into use are calling on supporters to object strongly to a plan to turn it into a church.

I live next door and wholeheartedly hope this planning application is refused. The council has an obligation to its community to have a space free for The Arts.
Turning this wonderful THEATER into a church would be a detrimental to the community. We already have 30 churches. We DO NOT want another.
I regularly visited the theatre while living in the area. It is a wonderful asset to the whole neighbourhood. I have seen the effects of these churches springing up everywhere with crowds being bussed in. There are sufficient churches in the area to serve those who want them. In contrast there is a dearth of facilities for the arts. If you lose the theatre, you lose yet another part of Streatham’s once vibrant history. It would be madness.
Save Streatham Hill Theatre as an arts venue
We have a multitude of churches in Streatham but sadly no ‘arts space/theatre’. I strongly hope, that the lungs of this magnificent theatre will be brought back to life for all future generations . A place where we can access, plays, ballets, comedy, operas and so much more. Lets keep Streatham’s history and Streatham theatre an inclusive creative hub for ALL.
This monument to all that is the best of British culture must remain a theatre !!! An artistic culturel centre for actors, directors, dancers, choreographers, touring shows, a try out venu, a shining exemple of décades of brilliance and theatrical history …so important .. indispensable for future générations. It must remain a theatre.
Please make sure you make formal comments on the Lambeth planning portal – see our Campaign page https://streathamhilltheatre.org/campaign for how to!
Please Lambeth Council, show the people that you do listen.
Don’t loose such a cultural gem for Streatham.
The community here would thrive if this venue could one day re open as originally intended.
There are enough religious settings in the borough but only one Theatre of such scale.
We have seen from our own experience at Cavendish Lodge Nursery School what a community hub can do for families in the borough, please refuse this change of use on this wonderful community asset.
I live on Blairderry Road and I love the idea of one day having the space back to its original purpose or at least to share the space.
Why do they have to change this building? There’s plenty of spaces out there to make a church. THIS IS NOT A CHURCH

Dear all,
Community asset’s such as the Streatham Hill theatre are being slowly lost to developers or converted to other uses, i wish to see this theatre remain as it’s intended use ‘Entertainment’ and not a place of worship the exact opposite of it’s intended use. I managed to keep the Brixton Palladium – FRIDGE as an entertainment space for over 25 years between 1985 and 2010. We were it’s longest standing occupant despite various landlords trying to develop the property. We also purchased the Granada Brixton but failed to save that, once gain developers. So it is sad to see that this could happen to the Streatham Hill Theatre may be not developers this time but still a huge loss to the community.
